Who can apply for a Community Activity Fund grant?

The fund is for community activities on First Wessex estates or activities in communities where a significant number of First Wessex residents will benefit.

For larger grants we expect groups to have raised money themselves through fundraising, small charges, sponsored activities or other grants. This applies unless you are a very new group and want help starting up or it is for a training or other activity it would be difficult to fundraise for.

What can the grant be used for?

The grant can be used for a variety of activities. For example:

• paying for room hire for a group to hold its first meeting
• providing sporting, residential or other activity for young people
• buying some basic IT equipment, running  IT open drop ins & training
• printing a community newsletter
• holding a fun day, community art  or drama activity
• childcare or other care so that parents and carers can take part in community group meetings and activities
• parent & toddler group
• activities for older people
• hiring an interpreter or translating documents
• paying for a training programme or learning opportunity for residents
• paying for an exchange visit to a similar group in another town to share good practice
• designing and printing community group stationery or publicity materials
  
  

How much can you apply for?

You can apply for any amount between £50 and £1,000.

Who will decide on your grant application and when?

A grants panel, made up of  SEHCO members and First Wessex staff will consider your application. The panel will meet every 8 weeks. We may write to you or ring you up for more information when we get your application or after the panel meeting if we need to check anything or to suggest any changes. We can make a decision for small sums of money (under £100) more quickly.

What can’t the Community Activity Fund be used for?

• activities carried out before a grant is awarded
• activities that are better funded by someone else (see above for other PHA grants but this could aply to other funders too – we will tell you & help approach the right person if we think that is better)
• activities that are not for the purposes of the Community Activity Fund
• activities that do not benefit First Wessex residents
• political or exclusively religious activities.
• commercial activities or benefits to individuals
